Home Inspection Checklist – Exterior
- Streets and alleyways cleaned
- Mailbox completed and flag installed
- Sidewalks and driveways cleaned – No cracks, no stains, no mortar – Pressurewashed
- Water meter installed
- Gate valves and sewer clean-outs located and exposed – at grade.
- Sod, landscaping, and trees are all fresh and alive. Trees are staked properly.
- Visually confirm proper positive drainage away from home.
- French drains at proper grade level and free of debris.
- Hose bibs and pipe clean outs are installed properly and even with brick.
- Shutters (painted / stained) and installed per plan/contract.
- And exterior flood lights are installed properly, pointing correctly, and work.
- Windows are properly caulked, clean, and have no stress cracks. Screens are installed properly.
- Brick is cleaned, weep holes are installed, mortar is pointed up. No nails or strings left in brick. Poly cut from slab edge.
- All expansion joints are installed and caulked properly.
- Gutters with downspouts are connected to drains and covers. Splash blocks installed if needed.
- Any exposed gas line going into house is painted.
- Freon line boxes are installed flush with brick.
- Phone and tech lines installed through brick
- Cornice work complete
- Shingles are clean, roof inspected (fish eyes, high staples, broke shingles)
- Heater vent pipes are straight and have caps and are taped.
- Plumbing vent pipes are painted and caps cut off.
- Fence is at proper height above sod and gates work properly.
- Sprinkler system is properly labeled and works properly. Heads are straight. None are broken.
- Confirm that the garage door is not dented. Opener is in place and it operates properly.
- Doors are weather-stripped and seal properly when closed.
- Counter flashing looks good and is installed properly. Joints are sealed and painted.
- Patios are cleaned.
- Expansion joints used at concrete touching home, exposed expansion material cut off.
- Exterior outlets installed, GFCI works, cover installed
- Paint is complete, touchups finished
- Windows cleaned properly, no stress cracks
- Brick lintels are painted to prevent rusting. Weep holes above windows.
- Front door is painted/stained.
- Peephole installed if required.
- Doorbell functions and is secured to brick.
