Checklist for Pouring Concrete Slab
- Verify the engineering representative has been called and is at the job site.
- Accomplish the engineers slab inspection (see foundation category for checklist)
- Make sure the concrete finisher arrives one hour in advance of the first truck, allowing time to cancel or delay
placement
- Use grade stakes to make sure the slab surface is level
- Check anchor bolts/mudsill anchors are placed along exterior walls: within 8 inches of each corner and plumbing pipe stub-outs: and every 4 – 6 feet on center (if required by your communities wind hazard criteria). Mark the locations of exterior doors on the form boards to keep anchor bolts/mudsill anchors out of doorway thresholds.
- Check all raised and dropped areas to ensure they are straight and have been sponge-floated
- Check for correct slope and proper edging at the entry and garage trough
- Check around all plumbing pipe stub-outs for proper finishing
- Check concrete is dropped 1 1/2 inches at exterior fireplaces and all column footings
- Check for surface cracks
- All concrete overspills should be spread out until hardened, then picked-up and stacked at the curb
- When finishing is complete, cover the entire slab surface with poly (colored preferred) to allow proper hydration and curing of the slab. Ensure proper security of the poly in windy conditions.
- Sign all delivery tickets personally, adding the address and purpose (slab/flatwork)
- Ensure no more than 15 gallons of water is added per truck when altering the workability of the concrete mix.)
- Make sure the concrete wash-out location is specified and known by concrete truck drivers
- Make sure all trash is in the trash barrel and construction debris is piled at the front of the jobsite.
- Payment for finishing is withheld until the slab is stripped of form boards, all honeycombs grouted, and any other requirements met.
