Drywall Installation
When building your own home, it is important to know the stages of construction to keep your home on schedule. So after your home has passed any required insulation inspections, it is going to then be ready for drywall installation. Depending on how you set up your drywall installation, their are a number of ways this material could be handled. Typically material for the drywall installation is going to be supplied by the turnkey drywall contractors. The material for the drywall job will consist of 4′ x 12′ x 1/2″; 4′ x 12′ x 5/8″; and fiber-cement backerboard for use in the wet areas. The use of 4×8 sheets of drywall will be used as required.
Note: Certain cities can adopt more stringent restrictions than code specifies. Therefore, in communities having City inspections, check with the local Engineering Department for the use of 5/8″ sheetrock for separation between the garage and living space.
A drywall contractor will then hang all of the drywall. The drywall contractor will then install corner bead at all outside corners. When the drywall contractor has completed this phase, all joints, corners, and nails are too be taped, floated, and skimmed. Prior to allowing the drywall contractor to complete and leave the job, it is important that you have him scrape and sweep the jobsite. The drywall contractor should not be paid until the work has been 100% completed to your satisfaction. At this point it is still important to hold retainage on your drywall contractor.
