First Foundation Inspection
When building your own home, it is important to know that you need to have the foundation inspection called in to the
applicable inspectors with sufficient lead times to ensure availability of the inspectors. The foundation inspection should not be called in, however, until you have had sufficient time yourself to thoroughly inspect the slab for obvious code violations as found in numerous checklists available at this site. When you call in the foundation for inspection, it should be ready for concrete placement.
Within city limits, the inspector may ask for a set of approved plans and/or elevation certifications (low lying areas). It is important to know the requirements in your community and have the necessary paperwork available for the inspector. When possible, meet the inspector at the job site. Any corrective action specified by the inspector shall be corrected prior to slab placement. Keep the copy of the inspection form in the house folder.
