Beginning Construction

Prior to the official commencement of construction, you should take a second chance to review all of your documentation to ensure a smooth process. Do a thorough review of the blue prints, verify all proper engineering documentation has been obtained, ensure that the site plan is accurate and up to date, and confirm that all of the proper permitting has been completed with the appropriate regulatory authorities (city, county, and state).

When preparing to build your own home you should walk the construction site and verify that the designed layout of the house will work with the lot set up. Take time to locate storm inlets, fire hydrands, lightpoles, manholes, trees which you desire to keep, etc. You should also take time to verify that the easments and setbacks on the siteplan provided by the surveying company are both up to date and accurate. This issue should flush its self out during the permitting process with the city but it never hurts to verify. Measure twice, cut once.

Also, during the pre construction plan review which is mentioned earlier, please verify that the layout of the house on the siteplan accurately reflects the homes foundation.
